The Film Fam
Two Takes. One Screen.
The Film Fam is a place for people who love movies, TV, and talking about what they’ve just watched.
At the heart of the site are Simon and Todd — a father and son with plenty of shared interests, plenty of different opinions, and no shortage of things to say about film and television.
Sometimes we agree completely. Sometimes we’re miles apart. That’s part of the fun.
Our reviews are built around two perspectives on the same title, giving you a chance to see how the same movie or show can land very differently depending on who’s watching it.
But The Film Fam isn’t just about our reviews.
We wanted to build a place where other movie and TV fans could join in too — rate what they’ve watched, write their own reviews, create lists, save favourites, keep a watchlist, follow other members, discover new titles, and compare their tastes with the rest of the community.
Simon — born 1969
Simon is the dad half of The Film Fam.
A lifelong movie and TV fan, he brings his own tastes, expectations and occasionally stubborn opinions to every review. He enjoys digging into what works, what doesn’t, and whether a title actually delivers on what it promises.
His score is the gold side of The Film Fam.
Todd — born 1998
Todd is the son half of the duo.
He brings a different perspective, different favourites and, quite often, a very different score. That contrast is exactly what makes reviewing together interesting.
Todd also brings a creative background to his reviews. He has a Bachelor of Arts majoring in theatre/film studies and a Bachelor in Creative Arts (Honours) majoring in theatre, has staged and performed his own one-man stage play, and has also written and directed another play with a cast and crew.
That hands-on experience with performance, storytelling and direction gives him another way of looking at what’s happening on screen — from the writing and acting through to the choices being made behind the camera.
His score is the blue side of The Film Fam.
Why two reviews?
Because there usually isn’t one “correct” opinion about a movie or TV show.
One of us might love something the other barely tolerates. A film that works brilliantly for one viewer might completely miss for another.
Rather than pretending there’s one definitive verdict, The Film Fam puts both opinions side by side.
Two takes. One screen.
And then there’s the Fam
The community is a big part of what we’re building.
Members can rate titles, write reviews, build their own collections, track what they want to watch, save favourites, earn badges and see what other Film Fam members are enjoying.
The goal is simple: make finding, watching and talking about movies and TV a bit more fun.
Whether you agree with Simon, agree with Todd, disagree with both of us, or just want to tell everyone why your favourite film is criminally underrated — you’re welcome here.
Welcome to The Film Fam.
